HONOLULU – Eight FIRST and 22 VEX Hawaii high school and middle school robotics teams traveled to the U.S. Mainland for world championships this past weekend.
The FIRST Robotics Championship hosted more than 10,000 students on 400 teams from all over the world to compete for the world championship title in St. Louis, Mo. McKinley and Waialua both qualified for, and participated in, the semi-final contest.
The VEX Robotics World Championship, held in Anaheim, Ca., featured nearly 700 teams from 33 countries competing for various awards. Highlands Intermediate School from Pearl City earned the Excellence Award, the highest honor at the event, presented to the most well-rounded VEX Robotics program.
