BY KEN CONKLIN – The Hawaiian Government Reorganization bill, H.R.2314 and S.1011, is also known informally as the Akaka bill. The bill is highly controversial. It has been pending in Congress for ten years. In the current 111th Congress, it has passed the House of Representatives and is awaiting action in the Senate. President Obama has said he will sign it if it passes.
There are three major conflicting viewpoints about the bill.
A series of three lecture/discussions on three successive Sundays will explore the three viewpoints (see below for names and viewpoints of the presenters). The dates are September 12, September 19, and September 26, 2010.
