Governor AbercrombieAnother of the Young Turks at the top of Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s administration, communications director Josh Levinson, is planning to leave.

“He intends to leave but there is no departure date,” Abercrombie press secretary Donalyn Dela Cruz said of Levinson.

Levinson advised staff in the governor’s office of his plans but no formal announcement is expected in the immediate future, said Dela Cruz.

Levinson was not available for comment.

Abercrombie’s office announced yesterday that chief of staff Amy Asselbaye and deputy chief of staff Andrew Aoki were resigning.

Dela Cruz said Levinson’s decision to depart was prompted in part by the exits of Asselbaye and Aoki.

“The difference is that there is no set date when he will leave,” Dela Cruz said.

“He wants to remain to make sure there is an orderly transition,” she said.

Asked why Levinson was quitting, Dela Cruz gave the same reason cited yesterday by Asselbaye and Aoki: “He wants to spend more time with his family.”

Levinson is in his mid-30’s. Asselbaye and Aoki are in their early 40’s. All three have young children.

Levinsons is the son of former Hawaii Supreme Court Associate Justice Steven Levinson and worked as a field organizer in Abercrombie’s gubernatorial campaign last year.
