BY DEAN CAPELOUTO – It is important that the rail have an “independent inspector – independent
inspection” team, that isn’t influenced by the receiving of RAIL construction contract revenues….. that is a major “conflict of interest”.

We asked about this early on, and were promised this would happen (during
one of the town halls).

Also the issue on local jobs, as pointed out my CM Kobayashi also has me
concerned.

We were promised 17,000 local jobs, and have 1,300 – with 13 percent of what was promised.

In any school that would equate to an “F”.

During the recent tour of the RAIL, last week, I was glad (and thankful) to
see local workers on the job, from local companies, but they can still do better, in my opinion.

See more about this story here.

  1. 17,000 local jobs for 20 miles of rail? Maintenance, station workers, janitorial, management, kiosks, customer service reps, conductors, train stewards. Pie in the sky numbers for these jobs would be around 1000 (more like 500 or less), and that's assuming 24 hour operations. They were more than likely factoring in businesses along the route having an uptick in profit due to increased foot traffic, but realistically people will want to get to work and then get home. The only reason they would deviate would be WHEN the trains break down and leave everyone stranded.
