SUBMITTED ON BEHALF OF CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE COLLEEN HANABUSA – A new robocall from national Republicans is trying to keep alive a lie about cuts to federal Medicare spending.
The Republican robocall features an elderly woman, near tears, claiming that Hanabusa cut $500 billion from Medicare. “TIt’s a lie, a part of the Republican politics of fear,” Rapoza said. “When you are willing to flat-out lie to scare people into voting for your candidate, it shows true desperation. But it’s a national Republican talking point.”
Rapoza pointed out that the facts behind reducing the cost of Medicare involve savings from cutting fraud and waste. “Nobody will see any reduction in legitimate benefits,” Rapoza said. “In fact, the recently passed health care act says specifically that ‘nothing in this act shall result in the reduction or elimination of any benefits guaranteed by law to participants in Medicare Advantage plans.’ Colleen pointed that out in a recent televised debate, so Djou and the Republicans know the truth. They’re hoping to mislead seniors.
“Yes, Colleen would have voted for the Health Care Act had she been in Congress, and one of the reasons for her vote would have been that protection of Medicare benefits for our kupuna.”
“The robocall is fear mongering, plain and simple,” Rapoza concluded.
