HONOLULU – Attorney General David M. Louie announced today that the Department of the Attorney General has signed an agreement to partner with the U.S. Department of State to help support criminal justice assistance programs abroad. The program is managed by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), of the U.S. Department of the State, and is designed to help foreign law enforcement personnel combat criminal networks and reduce criminal threats.

“Crime today is dangerous, organized, hidden, and crosses all borders.  It is not enough for governments to focus solely on protecting public safety and disrupting crime within their borders – our efforts must be global,” said Attorney General Louie. “We are pleased to work closely with the U.S. Department of State to bolster the law enforcement efforts of other nations and combat criminal activities everywhere.”

The U.S. Department of State has partnered with more than 70 state, county, and municipal criminal justice agencies across the United States that work with INL to assist with the training and mentorship of foreign law enforcement personnel. The program is intended to ultimately help reduce crime within U.S. borders and beyond by enhancing the ability of other nations to fight crime, administer justice, and protect citizens.
