This weekend the Department of Agriculture will present the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation’s 50th annual Hawaii State Farm Fair, in partnership with the 4-H Livestock Council at Kualoa Ranch. This is the first time the event is being held at Kualoa Ranch and the event is free for children and students of all ages and $5 for the general public.
The event will feature live animals, demonstrations, food samples and interactive displays both Saturday and Sunday. Visit the Ag-Tastic Expo that will include the next generation of island farmers who grow tomatoes and squash, herbs, papaya, corn, mushrooms, taro, lavender, internationally-recognized award-winning coffee and more. The farmers featured this year are:
– Shin Ho, Ho Farms (vegetables, including tomatoes, cucumber, squash, eggplant and long beans);
– Ty Law, Fat Law Farms (herbs such as basil and produce);
– Michael Kamiya, Kamiya Gold (papaya);
– Dominic Kadaoka, Waimanalo Country Farms (corn);
– Sam Durham, Island Fungi (home mushroom growing kits);
– Lyndsey Haraguchi-Nakayama, W.T. Haraguchi Farms (taro and taro-products such as kulolo);
– Koa Chang, Alii Kula Lavender (lavender); and
– Ralph and Joan Gaston, Rusty’s Hawaiian (coffee).
Another new addition is Oahu’s Eat the Street food trucks that will be offering offer smaller-sized “tasting” portions from approximately a dozen different trucks.
The ranch is also offering discounted rates on select attractions to those attending the fair including: Movie Site & Ranch Tour, Jungle Expedition, Secret Island, Ancient Hawaiian Fishpond & Garden, Legends & Legacy and Ocean Voyage. Â The discount is good through the following Sunday, July 15 with proof of purchase of a ticket from the Farm Fair.
