BY SEN. SAM SLOM – Realistic Budget. The Senate Minority will present an alternative state budget today at 12:30 pm in Room 214 of the Capitol. The realistic biennium (2014-2015) Budget, is lower than the Governor’s original proposal, the House Budget and the Senate Majority Budget. It cuts out a lot of overpriced and wasteful programs that Hawaii taxpayers just can’t afford.

HECO Breaks Wind. Yesterday the Public Utilities Commission ruled that Hawaiian Electric can stiff its customers for the $3.9 million it spent on “studies” for the First Wind project on Lanai and Molokai (rejected by residents on both Islands) and the accompanying undersea electric cable project. Rate payers will pay for HECO over the next three years of yet more monthly surcharges. It is way past time to deregulate this state monopoly.

NO to Taxpayer Funded Politicians.

With a shortage of cash, no new revenues and continuing demands for your money, the annual proposal to take millions of dollars from you annually to fund politicians is ludicrous. Should we educate the keiki, or subsidize politicians? Fix the roads or subsidize politicians? Get my drift? Taxpayer funded elections will neither guarantee you better lawmakers or better legislation, just more cost to you.

Akina Heads Grassroot. In a surprise move, President & co-founder of the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii Dick Rowland, stepped down in March and named his successor, Ke’ali Akina, PhD. The GRIH 6-member board had previously split 3-3 on Rowland’s decision, and three members resigned after the announcement. GRIH is Hawaii’s first and oldest free market think tank and member of the State Policy Network.

Duke, Moore to Star in “Heaven Forbid.” Emmy® and Academy Award® winning actress, Patty Duke, and KHON-TV’s Joe Moore will top a stellar cast on stage at the Hawaii Theatre June 23-29 in Michael Aitkens’ wonderfully funny comedy, Heaven Forbid!. Performances will be held at the Historic Theatre for 11 performances only. Ticket sales to the general public begin April 16.

Michael Aitkens’ Heaven Forbid! is about two rebellious seniors in a New Jersey retirement home who refuse to grow old gracefully.  It is a smart adult comedy that holds a mirror up to the dilemmas of aging and remaining independent in the face of those who wish the old would just fade away. Aitkens adapted Heaven Forbid! from his award winning BBC series, Waiting for God.

  1. If you’ve tried to choose a resume writer, you’ll know it’s a thankless task. At the time of writing, a search for the term ‘resume writer’ brought up 20 million results in Google. That's a lot of resume writers!

To make matters worse, there is no governing body for the industry. Anyone can call themselves a professional resume writer, set up a website, and start taking orders. And just to complicate things further, each company works differently. So a service that’s perfect for one person may be completely wrong for you.

All this makes it very difficult to know where to begin when you start to research potential services.
