Aloha,
Halau Ho’omau I ka Wai Ola O’ Hawai’i will share a special performance at the Hope Church United Church of Christ luau on Saturday, Sept. 15, in Alexandria, Virginia.
“The theme of our performance at this year’s luau is ‘Honoring our Kupuna,’ our elders and those who have given us so many gifts,” said Kumu Hula Manu Ikaika.
One of the best-known kupuna who will be honored at the luau is Hawaii Senator Daniel Akaka. Sen. Akaka has been a member of the Hope congregation for decades.
“We are very honored that Uncle Danny can attend so we can have an opportunity to say aloha and mahalo nui for his service to the state of Hawaii and for his kindness, generosity and boundless aloha spirit,” said Kumu Manu Ikaika.
The performance will also include a special hula dedicated to Kumu Hula O’Brian Eselu who passed away earlier this year.
The luau will feature an authentic Hawaiian pig roast, Hawaiian music and dance, Hawaiian vendors and more.
Tickets for the event, which includes dinner and a show, are $40 for adults and $25 for children. The event is schedule from 4 to 9 p.m. All proceeds go to the Hope Church children’s programs. The luau is a traditional event at the Hope Church, which has strong ties to the Hawaiian community in the DC metro area.
