Famed rocker Gene Simmons from KISS and his wife Shannon Tweed were in Hawaii in January 2008 to film two episodes of their television reality show, Family Jewels.
While they were in town, Simmons was the keynote speaker at the Smart Business Hawaii Annual Business and Investment Conference.
Sen. Sam Slom, R-Hawaii Kai-Diamond Head, heads the business advocacy organization, Smart Business Hawaii, and is a fan of Family Jewels (and yes, a fan of former Playboy model Shannon Tweed too) and it was Slom’s idea to bring Simmons to Hawaii.
Slom was featured on two episodes of Family Jewels that were filmed in Hawaii, which are still airing today. JN Automotive Group provided all of the cars to the Family Jewels production while Ko Olina Resort donated all of the suites to Simmons, Tweed, Tweed’s sister and the production staff and producers. Roy Yamaguchi of Roy’s restaurant Hawaii Kai prepared a special meal for the couple in his home and also was featured in the show.
At the time, Simmons and Tweed were a couple for nearly 30 years and had two children but they were never married.
It right after that trip to Hawaii, Simmons, a confirmed bachelor who said he would never get married, proposed to Tweed and then married her last year.
It has been a year since that fateful day, and not only are Simmons and Tweed still together, but they were back in Hawaii to renew their vows over the weekend.
At the luxury wedding party designed by famed Japanese planner Yoshi Nojiri of “Take and Give Needs”, Tweed wore an elegant gown designed by Badgley Mischka.
Nojiri, the youngest entrepreneur to take his company publicly traded in Japan, produces 18,000 weddings a year.
In the over the top ultra glamorous style that Nojiri is famously known for, the chandeliers were flown in from Las Vegas for the event.
Those who attended the event were greeted by stunning decor floral arrangements of thousands of brightly colored wild orchards adorning the crystal chandeliers. Dom Perignon champagne was freely flowing. Catering was provided by a local company, Sugar Beach Events of Hawaii.
Simmons and his family performed an impromptu event on stage. Simmons played the bass while his son and daughter sang classic rock standards and jazz tunes. The family said this was the first time they performed together.
Conde Nast Traveler rated the location, Haiku Mills, where Simmons and Tweed had their ceremony, as the number 2 in the country, and top 25 in the world, for wedding event destinations.
