REPORT FROM KAUAI COUNTY – LĪHU‘E – The Agency on Elderly Affairs announced that 10 people were nominated for the 2013 Outstanding Male and Female Older American awards.

The program is designed to honor older adults age 65 and older that have made exceptional contributions to their community.

The nominees include: Lourdes Domingo; Irenia Edrada; Romana Espanto; Cha-Cha Kaluahine; Lawrence Mendoca; Lucy Miller; Carole Nacion; Itsue “Frecki” Okada; Katsumi “Gutsy” Oyama; and William Rapozo.

In a special ceremony scheduled on Thursday, May 9, the nominees will be honored, and Kaua’i’s Outstanding Male and Female Older Americans will be announced.

The ceremony is being held in recognition of May being Older Americans Month, a time to celebrate and appreciate the vitality and aspirations of older adults and their contributions to their respective communities.

The theme for this year’s Older Americans Month, Unleash the Power of Age!, has never been more fitting. Older Americans are productive, active, and influential members of society, sharing essential talents, wisdom, and life experience with their families, friends, and neighbors.

For ideas on how you can unleash the power of age, please call the Agency on Elderly Affairs at 241-4470.
