REPORT FROM MAZIE HIRONO’S US SENATE CAMPAIGN – “Let’s go Warriors!” says Hawaii Congresswoman Mazie Hirono. Hirono may be a candidate for the United States Senate and she certainly has carried the weight of her responsibility as one of Hawaii’s two members in the U.S. House. However, this homecoming weekend, Mazie Hirono will first and foremost be a proud graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a diehard Warriors football fan.
The UH alumna is so confident in a Hawaii victory that she has entered into a friendly wager with her congressional colleague from New Mexico. Hirono and Congressman Martin Heinrich, who is also running for the U.S. Senate in New Mexico, are betting that their respective football team will emerge victorious when the two squads face off Saturday at Aloha Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 PM HT.
“We’re going to have a tremendous homecoming. I’m fully confident in the Warriors. Come Saturday, Hawaii is going to send the University of New Mexico Lobos packing,” said Mazie Hirono. “I’m not one to shy away from a fight and neither are the Warriors. We may be the underdogs, but I believe we’re the better team.”
Hirono is staking her bet with the best the Islands have to offer – Kona Chips potato chips, Kona coffee, and chocolate mochi cake from Nori’s Saimin & Snacks on Hawaii Island; Lavender Lilikoi jelly from the Ali`i Kula Lavender Farms in upcountry Maui; Zippy’s Chili from Oahu; and, chocolate opihi cookie candies from the Kauai Chocolate Company.
For his part, Congressman Heinrich is putting up a bushel of Hatch green chile. Hirono will attend Saturday’s game at Aloha Stadium to witness the Warriors win the football game, and in turn claim the New Mexico chile.
Hirono added, “I encourage all Hawaii Warrior football fans to head to Aloha Stadium and cheer on the team! Join us for a spirit-filled homecoming and what promises to be a great football game.”
In addition to receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Hirono attended Kaahumanu Elementary and Koko Head Elementary schools, Niu Valley Middle and Jarrett Middle schools, and she is also a proud graduate of Kaimuki High School.
