Press Secretary Donalyn Dela Cruz, who has been handling media liaison duties for Abercrombie since he took office, departs at the end of this month for a new job with the state Department of Education.
A slew of top aides left Abercrombie’s office last year and last month communications director Jim Boersema returned to the private sector.
“It has been a great honor to serve the Governor and help implement his New Day Plan,” Dela Cruz said in a press release.
Abercrombie’s deputy chief of staff Blake Oshiro will oversee communications “in the interim,” the press release said.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for Donalyn, and I am more so pleased that the Administration and the State will continue to benefit from her expertise,” Abercrombie said.
To make room for Dela Cruz at the DOE, now-department communications office director Sandra Goya said in her own news release that she will handle “school-level communications.”
Communications changes planned at the DOE include developing internet and intranet portals to improve access to information for employees, parents, community and businesses, according to Goya.
