Shown below is a quick look at this week’s Hawaii state unemployment data – initial claims filed.

Statewide initial unemployment claims increased by 5.1%, with this week’s total filings
of 2,501 and filings during the same week in 2009 of 2,379.

Comparing 2010 to 2009 for the counties:

· Oahu had 135 more claims filed
· Hawaii had 93 more claims filed
· Maui had 58 fewer claims filed
· Kauai had 20 fewer claims filed

In percentage changes, comparing the current week to the same week a year ago:

· Oahu had a 11.1% increase
· Hawaii had a 19.7% increase
· Maui had a 13.9% decrease
· Kauai had a 10.1% decrease
