Potholes, Patches and Poorly Maintained Roads – Focus on Alexander Street

The recent heavy rains reveal the folly of the current administration’s reliance upon pothole repair rather than true full road repair and maintenance. The island is simply awash in potholes. The rain soaks into previously repaired potholes around the edges, loosening the structure and the whole thing quickly deteriorates.

This pothole caught my attention because as I was walking by someone hit it dead on and the sound was so loud I thought they had struck something. This site is Alexander Street, which is the main freeway feeder for Waikiki traffic returning to the airport via Mcully and Punahou Streets. It gets very heavy traffic and this pothole appeared in just days. Who knows how many cars will get damaged driving over this pothole getting on the freeway before it can be patched sometime next week, if then.
