Hawaii has many talented musicians, but Rick Broadwell can boast that he’s performed with some of the world’s most famous.

Broadwell, who plays with the Royal Hawaii Band and Hawaii Symphony Pops, also has performed along side the legendary Ray Charles, Johnny Mathis, James Ingram, Wayne Newton, The Temptations, Marie Osmond and Natalie Cole.

Locally, he’s played with such notable musicians as Brothers Cazimero, and Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom.

When the production of “Wicked” comes to town in November, he will be a part of that as well.

But when he is not on stage, Broadwell helps people plan their own birthday parties, weddings, luaus, corporate mixers, anniversaries and retirement parties through his business, Hawaii Live Music Company.

Broadwell, who moved to Hawaii in 1987 from Los Angeles, has 25 years of entertainment and music industry experience, during which he has enjoyed the roles of musician, bandleader, music director and composer/arranger.

Hawaii Live Music is not a ‘celebrity booking agency’ or a DJ, he explained. but the company provides professional live music for events.

Broadwell uses his extensive contacts to help his clients to select the right size group and the music style for the ambiance they wish to create.

Surprisingly in Hawaii, the choices his clients make are vast.

The most popular options his clients select include:

  • Solo artists, such as a Harpist, Ukulele or Piano player.
  • Hawaiian Trio
  • Classical String Quartet
  • Jazz Band
  • Big Band ( a 17 Piece Jazz Orchestra)
  • R&B Band

“I tell my clients to ‘dream big,’ because their wish can come true,” Broadwell said, adding events are more memorable with music.
