ST. LOUIS, Aug 25, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Insituform Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq Global Select Market: INSU) announced today that it has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $7 million by the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii to rehabilitate nearly 1,400 feet of a 69-inch diameter pipeline beneath Ala Moana Boulevard, one of the main access roads to Waikiki Beach.
Using Insituform(R) CIPP on this project will allow continued access to Waikiki Beach throughout the duration of the project. Installations will take place around the clock near the popular Point Panic Beach Park, Children’s Discovery Center and Waikiki Yacht Club.
Since 2005, Insituform has completed nearly $40 million of pipeline rehabilitation work for the City and County of Honolulu. With this latest contract award, Insituform continues its relationship with Honolulu as it continues to fulfill its 10-year capital improvement plan. Now nearing completion, Honolulu expects to continue its rehabilitation efforts as part of a routine maintenance program.
“We are pleased to continue to work with the City and County of Honolulu as they complete their 10-year capital improvement plan and we look forward to new opportunities as the City and County move into a maintenance program. Our experience in the Honolulu area will be valuable as we manage this project in the high-traffic and critical area of Ala Moana Boulevard,” said Ford Cooper, General Manager for Insituform’s West Region.
Insituform, a pre-qualified general contractor, will work with locally-owned subcontractors to provide bypass, traffic control, cleaning, closed-circuit television inspection and manhole rehabilitation beginning in October 2010. It is expected this project will be completed in approximately twelve months.
Insituform(R) CIPP is a jointless pipe-within-a-pipe used to rehabilitate pipes ranging in diameter from 6 to 96 inches. Suitable for repair of sanitary sewers, storm sewers and force mains, Insituform(R) CIPP extends the life of existing infrastructure by approximately 100 years. Rehabilitating sewer pipelines with Insituform(R) CIPP reduces infiltration, restores structural integrity and increases flow capacity without disruption to communities, typically at a lower cost than dig and replace solutions.
