HONOLULU – Janel Echiberi, 35, a former School Administrative Services Assistant at Lehua Elementary School in Pearl City, has been charged with two counts of Theft in the Second Degree and two counts of Forgery in the Second Degree.

The Department of the Attorney General filed a complaint alleging that between August 27, 2004, to and including September 6, 2008, Echiberi stole school funds and forged documents approving the use of school funds while employed by Lehua Elementary School.

Arraignment and plea and a change of plea are scheduled for October 28, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. before the Honorable Richard Perkins of the Circuit Court of the First Circuit.

A complaint is only an accusation, and Echeberi is presumed innocent unless and until she is found guilty by a judge or jury.

Submitted by Christopher D.W. Young, Supervising Deputy Attorney General for Hawaii.
