”’Hawaii Reporter”’ has learned that recently retired Honolulu Police Major Dan Hanagami is one of four finalists for the position of state Campaign Spending Commission executive director. Hanagami and two other retired police officers with extensive white-collar crime investigation experience, are seeking to replace Robert Watada, who is retiring this October after more than a decade in that position. The names and backgrounds of the four finalists have not been made public.
Hanagami was the main police investigator on the series of cases involving contributions to then Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris that were referred from the Campaign Spending Commission to city law enforcement.
