The Hawaiian Hoary Bat, the only native land mammal in Hawaii stands a good chance of becoming the official land mammal for the state. SB 878, which Senator Sam Slom introduced gets a hearing this coming Monday, February 7 in the Hawaiian Affairs committee at 3:15 pm (new time) in State Capitol Room 224. If the bill is approved by both houses and signed by the Governor, “… The Hawaiian hoary bat (Lasiurus Cinereus Semotus) is established and designated as the official land mammal of the State.”
We have a website set up for the bat at https://hawaiianhoarybat.wordpress.com/. Bill links, status and information about the Hoary Bat are there.
