Five appointments each to the University of Hawaii Board of Regents and the East West Center Board of Governors were announced this afternoon by Gov. Neil Abercrombie.
Named as regents were:
Coralie Matayoshi (Oahu), an attorney and chief executive officer of the American Red Cross since 2003.
Jan Sullivan (Oahu), an attorney and chief operating officer at Oceanit, an engineering, technology and science company.
Sandra Scarr (Big Island), commonwealth Professor of Psychology emerita, University of Virginia, where she was on the faculty from 1983 to 1995.
Patrick Naughton (Big Island), operator of a nonprofit that provides tutoring for children with dyslexia and other reading disabilities.
Saedene Ota (Maui), owner and creative director of Sae Design, an advertising firm.
The regent nominations are subject to approval of the state Senate.
Appointed by Abercrombie to the East West Center board:
Puongpun Sananikone, an international development economist and business executive, who currently serves as EWC board chairman.
Barbara Tanabe, owner and partner of Ho’âkea Communications and former chief executive of the Hill & Knowlton public relations firm.
Corianne Lau, an attorney at Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing.
R. Brian Tsujimura, a lawyer, land developer, and lobbyist with the law firm Imanaka Kudo & Fujimoto.
Richard Turbin, attorney and president of the Turbin Chu Smith law firm.
Abercrombie also named former Hawaii Gov. George Ariyoshi to serve as an ex-officio member of the East West Center Board of Governors.
