The weekly unemployment statistics update is now on our DBEDT Internet site

Shown below is a quick look at this week’s unemployment data – initial claims filed as compared to the same week last year.

Statewide initial unemployment claims decreased by 14.7%, with this week’s total filings of 2,447 and filings during the same week in 2010 of 2,868.

Comparing 2011 to 2010 for the counties:

·        Oahu had 159 fewer claims filed
·        Hawaii had 28 fewer claims filed
·        Maui had 140 fewer claims filed
·        Kauai had 81 fewer claims filed

In percentage changes, comparing the current week to the same week a year ago:

·        Oahu had a 10.6% decrease
·        Hawaii had a 4.5% decrease
·        Maui had a 33.7% decrease
·        Kauai had a 32.0% decrease
