HONOLULU, HAWAII —Online voting and telephone balloting has already generated higher participation rates than the 2009 election, according to election officials—and there is still time to vote.

With a current participation rate of 6.6 percent, Executive Neighborhood Executive Secretary Tom Heinrich said: “We are pleased by the increase in the voter turnout rate and are hoping that our public relations efforts in the final week to get out the vote will push participation even higher.”

Election officials estimate that this cost cutting method of voting will save the City close to $85,000 the total cost for the 2011 election.

Access to the Neighborhood Boards election can be found at www1.honolulu.gov/nco or by calling 888-907-6717.  Voters will need their pass code distributed by the City and County of Honolulu to voters via mail on May 2, 2011.

Voters who need their pass code replaced can contact the Neighborhood Commission at 808-768-3717.  The election will remain accessible until Friday, May 20 at 11:59 p.m. (HST).

Voters without internet access have additional options to cast their ballots.  There are three voting sites with online access:

  • Kapolei Hale conference room D, 1000 Ulu’ohi’a Street, Kapolei, HI 96707 (M-Th 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
  • Honolulu Hale Courtyard, 530 South King Street, Honolulu, HI 96813 (M-Th 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
  • Hau’ula Civic Center, 54-010 Kukuna Road, HI 96717 (M-W 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m.)

Please bring your pass code (delivered by mail) to the voting site.  Voters may also choose to vote via telephone by calling toll-free 888-907-6717.  To use either the online or the telephone method, voters will need their pass code and the last four digits of their social security number to vote.  The online and telephone channels work together and there is only one vote per eligible voter.

The City and County of Honolulu selected Everyone Counts, Inc.—a world leader in transparent, secure, and accessible elections for all voters—to deliver Internet and telephone voting solutions for the 2011 Neighborhood Board Elections.
