HONOLULU, HAWAII — Lyon Associates, Inc. this week celebrates the 50-year anniversary of the firm’s founding. The family owned and locally operated firm established its Honolulu headquarters in 1972; works on all the Hawaiian Islands and has current projects and offices in Guam, Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, American Samoa, Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan and Bahrain.

The international engineering consultancy marks the anniversary with the formal adoption of the slogan “Improving Island Life,” the launch of an updated website (www.lyonassociates.com), and a client appreciation event at its Honolulu office:

Thursday, May 19, 2011, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., 45 N. King Street, Suite 501

“This milestone exceeds any expectation we had for our family-owned, independently operated business,” said Frank E. Lyon, Jr., Lyon Associates founder and chairman. “Improving quality of life for islanders is a natural extension of our commitment to maintain a local focus and operate internationally.

“Over 50 years, we’ve been given the privilege of working with clients that have done just that through infrastructure improvements and facility upgrades to give island and coastal communities, throughout the Pacific, Asia, Middle East and Africa a better quality of life.”

Frank Lyon was working in Asia when he and a group of senior personnel from the Far East Division of his predecessor firm organized Lyon Associates in 1961. His son, Jim Lyon, became president in 2007.

Lyon Associates Highlights:

•    Diversity: More than 10 languages spoken at the firm. Range of local/regional expertise.
•    Professional engineers with Certified Flood Plain Managers (“CFM”) and U.S. Green Building Council LEED certifications.
•    Currently working in 17 island locations and advising clients on climate change adaptation.
