Sara Tashima, Sacred Hearts Academy Senior, participated this week in the National Rifle Association (NRA) Junior Air Gun Championship and the National Air Rifle Junior Olympics in Anniston, AL.  Tashima placed 5th individually overall in the NRA competition and won second place in the standing shooting competition.  She qualified for the NRA National Postal Match Team, a match in which competitors fire on their home ranges using targets which have been marked for identification. The fired targets are then sent to NRA for scoring and ranking for awards.

During the National Air Rifle Junior Olympics,  Tashima was awarded the “The Excellence in Competition” badge (EIC) by accruing 30 match points in her career as an air rifle competitor.  There have only been 600 EIC badges awarded since 1998 and only one other Hawaii EIC badge recipient, Sacred Hearts Academy Air Riflery Assistant Coach Vicci Yau.  The Sacred Hearts Academy Air Riflery Head Coach is Guy Chun, assisted by Carlton Lum and Yau; Ryan Hogue is the Athletic Director.
