On August 8, 2013 The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii will hold its 20th Annual “2013 Hawaii Employment Law Seminar” at the Hawaii Convention Center. Held in partnership with Torkildson, Katz, Moore, Hetherington & Harris, the seminar is Hawaii’s premier and most comprehensive employment law seminar developed exclusively for Hawaii’s businesses. Over 400 owners, managers and Human Resource executives are expected to attend.
During the full day seminar, attorneys from Torkildson Katz et al will provide attendees with the most current updates and information regarding laws, policies and regulations for federal labor and employment law issues.
“This employment law seminar is one of our most valuable and Hawaii’s most popular for the business community. Knowing what to do with regard to hiring, managing, and counseling is essential to the continued success of every business. Staying abreast of employment law changes which impact how we manage our employees is vital. Not being aware of employment changes can create challenges within the work environment, along with being very costly and time consuming to any company,” said Jim Tollefson, President & CEO the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.
The luncheon keynote speaker is General Counsel Lafe Solomon of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Solomon’s remarks will cover the difficult political and judicial situation that the NLRB is in, as well as the agency’s prosecution of cases applying the Labor Act to nonunion workplaces (social media, at will, class action waivers and other company handbook policies), and other matters of interest to Hawaii employers. “We are honored to have General Counsel Solomon as our luncheon speaker. As an expert on labor relations and the issues that can arise, his insight will be extremely valuable,” says Tollefson.
The seminar includes distribution of the newly revised 2013-14 CHAMBER DESK MANUAL: Labor And Employment Law For Hawaii Employers®. The Manual contains 34 chapters of common-sense advice concerning Hawaii and federal employment, as well as labor relations issues, and is an indispensable resource for personnel matters. The manual will include a new chapter on “Sample Employee Handbook” for the small employer. This new chapter will provide the essential policies every small business should consider in adopting and implementing an employee handbook.
“I encourage every business to attend this valuable seminar. It is important for Hawaii’s businesses to stay compliant and that we as owners and managers provide a safe and productive environment to ensure the health of our employees and the continued growth and success of our businesses,” says Tollefson.
