Island Insurance Executive First From Hawaii Elected to National Post of the American Society of Safety Engineers

HONOLULU – The American Society of Safety Engineers’ (ASSE) Practice Specialty Leadership Group inducted Jim Newberry, Assistant Vice President and Risk Control Manager of Island Insurance, as its new Risk Management and Insurance Practice Specialty Administrator for 2011-2012.  ASSE is comprised of over 34,000 occupational safety, health and environmental professional members from across the nation.  The Practice Specialty Leadership administrators are leaders in the safety industry and serve as resource experts in their respective specialties.

Newberry has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Safety and Safety Management from Indiana State University and is an extension instructor for the OSHA Training Institute at the University of California San Diego.  He is a member of the American Society of Professional Safety Engineers and was the first Hawaii recipient to receive the ASSE Risk Management/Insurance (RM/I Practice Specialty (PS) Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) Award.
