The Hawaii Symphony Orchestra (HSO) announced today that its fall Masterworks concert series will kick off on Saturday, October 19. Tickets are now on sale for what is expected to be an exciting series of concerts featuring soloists, guest conductors and programs designed for all those who love live performances of some of the world’s greatest, most enjoyable music.
HSO board member Vicky Cayetano said “our goal to bring great music not only to those who have always enjoyed live orchestral performances, but also to the many people, young and old, of every ethnic background in our state’s rich patchwork of cultures.”
JoAnn Falletta, HSO Artistic Advisor since its 2011-12 inaugural season, added, “I am very happy the HSO will once again present many of the world’s most sought after and accomplished artists to our Hawaii audience, including several of the fastest rising young conductors in the country. In addition, the repertoire on this season’s programs draw from the great symphonic works of orchestral literature through fascinating newer pieces, including a piece that celebrates our unique connection to the Pacific Rim as well as a banjo concerto written and performed by one of the most creative artists expanding his musical horizon to include symphonic work. I am very excited with this season and, based on the enthusiastic reception of our last season that brought concertgoers to their feet following every performance, I am confident live orchestral music in Hawaii is not only alive and well, but growing. Our collective goal and mission is to bring the joy of the world’s great music to the widest possible audience in Hawaii.”
HSO President Steven Monder also announced performance dates for the 2014 spring series, the second half of the 2013-2014 season: March 16; April 5, 6, 26, 27; May 11, 17, 18; and June 1.
Prices for the fall Masterworks season range from $80 to $230 for a three-concert package; and $140 to $400 for a six-concert package that includes the popular Beethoven Symphony No. 9 finale concert.
