The revitalized Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, which kicks off its season on Saturday, October 19, will premiere a 4-piece ensemble at the Small Business Hawaii Entrepreneurial Education Foundation awards dinner on Friday, September 20 at the Waialae Country Club.

The 20-minute concert is sponsored by former First Lady Vicky Cayetano, head of United Laundry Service, who is the winner of the “SBH Jean Fukuda Civic Leadership Award,” for her role as successful businesswoman, civic leader and cultural advocate.

Cayetano has headed up the effort to reestablish a symphony on Oahu through her role on the board of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra. “Our goal to bring great music not only to those who have always enjoyed live orchestral performances, but also to the many people, young and old, of every ethnic background in our state’s rich patchwork of cultures,” Cayetano said.

Other SBH Business All Stars Awardees to be honored at the September 20 dinner are:

“The SBH Lex Brodie Business Person of the Year” (2013) is John Carpenter of Island Slipper Company. John will be honored for his many years of business success, management style and keeping alive an iconic family business that he successfully expanded.

“SBH Business Boosters” are Ryan Ozawa and Burt Lum of Byte Marks Café. Both Ryan and Burt are techie experts who give their time and knowledge to the community and regularly speak up for business and entrepreneurs in public, on radio and on television.

“SBH Young Entrepreneur of the Year,” 12-year old (that’s right, 12!) Skylar Soares, who, despite serious medical challenges, chose through Make A Wish Foundation, and the help of students at Hawaii Pacific University and Maryknoll School, to start her own successful sun-protection Hawaii hat business, “HI Sky.”
