HONOLULU —Compassion & Choices Hawaii will present ‘The Sacred Art of Dying: An Advance Directive Party” on Thursday, October 10 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 780 Keolu Dr. in Kailua. Admission is free. For information call 262-4548.

The event, part of the church’s Community Speakers Series, will be led by Compassion & Choices End of Life Care Coordinator Skye Morrison. Participants will learn about their end of life options, how to identify priorities and ensure their individual wishes are honored. Free materials including the Compassion & Choices “Good to Go Toolkit” will be provided. The materials will guide attendees through the process of making and communicating their decisions via an advance directive and other tools for documenting and communicating wishes.

Bookends book store will be selling new and used books on the topic, in addition to the free materials. Light refreshments will be served.

Morrison said, “There is a growing national movement to secure more individual choice and autonomy over the treatment people receive during their final days. Getting educated about options is the first step, and we invite anyone interested in learning more to join us.”
