It looks like Hawaii Tokai International College and Tokai University Educational System will finally be built. The institutions broke ground Monday at their new location in Kapolei, next to the University of Hawaii’s West Oahu campus.
The institutions, which is expected to open in April 2015, will be moving from Kapiolani Boulevard to Kapolei.
Student housing, a learning center and a multi-purpose room, on 6-acres of land that include cherry blossom trees and azalea gardens, will be build for up to 300 students.
University of Hawaii officials sold the land for $6 million to Tokai University two years ago.
As Hawaii News Now first reported, the University of Hawaii quickly spent $4 million of the $6 million, but waited more than two years to give the property deed to Tokai, which prevented Tokai from building there.
The West Oahu campus was completed last year.
