Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii – After 188 starts on the PGA TOUR and five top-10 finishes during the 2013 season, Jimmy Walker brought home his first career victory at last week’s Frys.com Open in San Martin, Calif. With his victory, Walker earned a spot in the winners-only Hyundai Tournament of Champions at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii from Jan. 3-6, 2014.
This was Walker’s fifth start at the Frys.com Open since 2008; prior to his win, his best finish at the event was T4 in 2012. The 2012 season was also Walker’s most successful year on TOUR to date and included six top-10 finishes. He followed that up with five top-10 finishes during the 2013 season, the most recent being a T2 at The Greenbrier Classic in July 2013.
“I’ve always wanted to go to Maui, and now we get to go the way I always wanted to – to play the Hyundai Tournament of Champions,” said Jimmy Walker. “I don’t know what to expect, I’m excited. It’s going to be fun and I’m going to take the whole family.”
Walker joins a list of 31 winners from the 2013 PGA TOUR season that have qualified for the January 2014 event in Hawaii. The winners include:
