Mayor Carlisle is Not Honest, Transparent or Fiscally Responsible

BY KIRK CALDWELL – We’ve all heard the typical politician speech before, and this morning a career politician gave just that. Mayor Carlisle talked about his record of being honest, transparent and fiscally responsible. But the truth is, he is none of these.

An honest and transparent Mayor wouldn’t hide the fact that he suspended the city debt guidelines, as was reported today. Peter Carlisle has demonstrated a total disregard for the public, and when I say public, I mean you, your family and your friends.  It’s simply unacceptable behavior and Peter owes all of us an apology.

This is just the latest example of Mayor Carlisle’s lack of transparency and his failed leadership that is moving the rail project backwards.

Mayor Carlisle is also failing to listen to the people. These are crucial things a good Mayor must do and he is not. As Mayor, I will work harder to be completely transparent and honest, and I will ALWAYS make time to listen to the people. That’s why I’m out in the community meeting with folks everyday, to listen to their thoughts and ideas for the future of our city.

  1. Today’s story should bring the mayor’s popularity rating to rock bottom. He has selectively withheld information about the rail from the public, outright lied about the financial feasibility of rail, and has a total disregard for the people who voted him into office. He has bullied his way through the big issues such as sewers, potholes, new taxes and user fees and has allowed development to run rampant without first fixing the infrastructure to support development. His days in office are numbered. I say get him out before he sinks this whole island!

  2. I’ll be the first to say that Caldwell has little to say about who’s honest. While Caldwell was acting Mayor, I attended a meeting at the former Wailupe Elementary School as part of his meeting to discuss the use of the former school with the residents of Aina Haina. For about six months prior the the meeting, the President of the AH Community Association tried to meet with him or members of his cabinet to discuss the community’s suggestions. Not only did he not meet with the President, the President got the cold shoulder from the administration. At the meeting, Caldwell said that the City had not made any plans for the use of the former school and was still investigating possible uses. A week later, a long-time friend who works in the Parks and Recreation Dept. told me that the city workers at both the Ala Wai and Manoa offices were told to choose which ones wanted to work at the Aina Haina site. Plans were already in place as to who would be moving to Aina Haina. No, Mr. Caldwell, you LIED to everybody present at the meeting.

  3. At least we “might” get soap back in the restrooms with Caldwell. Now, the question is “Can we also get some paper towels with the soap, or is that just too much multitasking?!

    • Oh great, not only do we have to watch out for the grease, we have to watch out for the bars of soap? No thanks!
