As the subtitle suggests, this book is “a doctor’s journey through the worlds of divine intervention, near-death experiences, and universal energy.” The author, John L. Turner, M.D., is a board-certified neurosurgeon practicing in Hilo, Hawaii. His journey began with his desire to find the meaning of illness, life, death, and life after death. “As I began to understand the mind/body connection, the Hawaiian Islands allowed me to blend Eastern medical techniques of healing with traditional Western allopathic (i.e., mainstream) treatments,” Turner explains in the Preface.

Turner reports on some of his very interesting medical cases, including one in which a malignant brain tumor disappeared after some Buddhists monks intervened. “I couldn’t believe my eyes! There was no trace of the lesion that had glared menacingly from the screen before and after the surgery,” Turner writes. In another case
