HONOLULU – Retail Merchants of Hawaii (RMH) is holding their first ever retail job fair on July 23, 2014. It will take place at the Ward Warehouse’s second floor in the Kaka`ako and Kewalo conference rooms from 9am-3pm. Hundreds of part-time and full-time positions are available from retailers like ABC Stores, UGG Australia, Big Island Candies, Pepsi Co., Safeway, American Savings Bank, Kate Spade NY, and much more.
“We are gearing up for another busy holiday season and I am so excited for the retail job fair! For years we have relied on postings at the universities and on Craigslist. Finally, there is an advertised event for retailers!” said Gretchen Gerloff, Senior Store Manager at UGG Australia. The retail industry contributes to 25% of the workforce in Hawaii—about 200,000 jobs. It is also the largest contributor to the general excise tax revenue.
RMH President, Sheri Sakamoto said, “Retailers are continuously searching for qualified employees, yet we lack resources for retail specific recruitment, which is why we are encouraging job-seekers to attend our job fair.” Positions at the retail job fair range from sales associates, managers, assistant managers, stock, merchandise, deli clerks, customer service clerks, etc. Retail members and non-members can purchase a table for $75 which includes two lunches. Founded in 1901, the Retail Merchants of Hawai’i (RMH) is a state-wide not-for-profit trade association committed to the growth and development of the retail industry in Hawai’i. The RMH mission is to promote the welfare of the retail industry, to provide information and training to advance the interests of the retail industry, and to serve as an advocate for the retail industry in both the governmental and the business communities. The retail industry is the largest single generator of general excise tax revenue and employs almost 24% of the workforce in the State of Hawaii. Because effective interaction with government is critical to business, RMH is recognized as the official representative of the retail industry in Hawaii.
