U.S. Senator Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, received the most money of all U.S. Senate candidates from one of the nation’s leading asbestos firms, the Baron & Budd law firm based in Dallas, according to opensecrets.org.

Legal Newsline performed an analysis of donations from the nation’s top asbestos firms because these companies contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in the 2014 election cycle.

Baron & Budd contributed the most money, awarding $203,950 to politicians and Senate Majority PAC, and another $32,400 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Legal Newsline reports.

Schatz received $12,600, followed by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. at $8,900, and Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., at $7,100.

  1. Aren't there bans on some asbestos products here in the US? I believe asbestos is banned in most of the developed world but still used heavily in most poor Asian countries. And there are many ongoing class action suits on behalf of shipyard workers against former and present asbestos manufacturers in the USA.Some workers in Hawaii are represented. Asbestos causes a fatal lung disease( mesothelioma). Is Schatz a Corporatist as well as a cronyist?

  2. The law firm,Baron and Budd is a law firm that represents victims and workers affected by asbestos. When I read the article above,I thought that Schatz was taking money from asbestos manufacturers.I was mistaken. But I still think he is a corporatist(corporate statist). He believes in strong partnership between businesses and the government.
