HONOLULU — The Coast Guard urges the public to use extreme caution with the onset of high surf expected to impact the Hawaiian Islands throughout the weekend.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a high surf advisory for north and west facing shores through Friday.
The public is advised to monitor weather and ocean conditions through local television, radio and internet before heading out and be aware that weather conditions can quickly change.
Beach goers should know their limits, observe and heed all posted signs, flags and warnings and visit beaches with lifeguards. Additionally, stay clear of rocks and jetties and beware of undertow and riptides, even in shallow water.
Individuals who place themselves in a dangerous situation may also be placing the lives of first responders at risk.
Remember, when in doubt, don’t go out!
