The proposal by Honolulu Council Chair Ernie Martin and Council member Stanley Chang to rename Sandy Beach after President Barack Obama has been withdrawn, at least for now.
Honolulu city council members were going to consider a resolution next week that would have renamed Sandy Beach Park to President Barack Obama Sandy Beach Park.
However, Mark Segami, spokesperson for the council, said Martin and Chang withdrew the resolution after mixed reaction from the public.
Segami said the council will now considering naming a rail stop in downtown Honolulu after the President, since he is a major supporter of the city’s 20-mile, $5.2 billion elevated steel on steel rail transit project.
