HONOLULU – Skylar Soares has faced tremendous adversity within her short thirteen years of life, diagnosed with three life-threatening diseases before reaching adolescence: Job Syndrome, Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) and Lupus.

(See her remarkable story told on video here: https://vimeo.com/105181707 )

After battling her sicknesses for many years, Skylar now requires intensive medical treatment that can only be delivered at facilities on the continental US East Coast. Family and friends are hosting a fundraiser to acquire monetary support to send Skylar to get the proper treatment she deserves.

Skylar launched HiSky, a stylish hat line, inspired by her medical need to wear head-covering to protect her sensitive skin. Skylar was once granted a wish through Make-A-Wish Hawaii, but instead chose to give instead of get. As a student at Maryknoll School, Skylar wished to bring fun, sun-safe hats to the rest of her peers, and also educate her friends about safe sun exposure. HiSky now creates custom-made hats for customers all around the world, and all proceeds go toward funding Skylar’s treatments.
