REPORT FROM THE CITY & COUNTY OF HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation, which annually coordinates the Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, is alerting residents not to be alarmed if they hear jets flying and rifles discharged on Memorial Day.
Military jets will conduct a low-altitude fly over at Punchbowl to commemmorate the annual event on May 28, 2012. Preceding the fly over will be a rifle volley at approximately 9:15 a.m., which will last about five minutes.
The public is invited to the Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony, which begins at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony is presented through the coordination and support of more than 50 government agencies, businesses and non-profit organizations and individuals. Special buses will run throughout the morning to accommodate the public.
