INTERFAITH OPEN TABLE PRE-WATADA FORUM
The Church of the Crossroads along with The Interfaith Alliance Hawaii (TIAH) and Hawaii Interfaith Power and Light (HIPL) will be hosting an Interfaith Open Table Pre-Watada Forum on “Stewards of the Creation: Envision Community, Engage Sustainability” on Tuesday September 20th from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. Panel will consist of Rev. David Turner, Executive Director, Camp Mokuleia, Rev. Dr. Kaleo Patterson, President, Pacific Justice & Reconciliation Center, Kaleo Manuiwa Wong, Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) Hokule’a Master Navigator and Senator Laura Thielen, Hawaii State Senate, District 25. The panel will moderated by Dr. Travis Idol, President HIPL.
The theme for this year’s 2016 Umematsu and Yasu Watada Lectures revolves around “Environmental/Food Sustainability and Cultural Transformation”. Keynote invited speaker for the October 13-16 lecture series will be Erik Assadourian, Senior Fellow at Worldwatch Institute where he has studied cultural change, consumerism, degrowth, ecological ethics, corporate responsibility, religion and sustainable communities over the past 14 years.
Every two years the Church of the Crossroads, a United Church of Christ Just Peace, Open and Affirming and a Greening Congregation, holds the Umematsu and Yasu Watada Lectures on Peace, Social Justice and the Environment with support from an endowment by Kathy Watada Wurfel and David Wurfel.
