BY JIM DOOLEY – Police arrested a suspect this afternoon in last week’s fatal shooting of 29-year-old William M. “Billy” Fallau of Kaneohe.
Fallau was killed by a gunshot wound to the neck, according to authorities. His body was found by hikers near Kawainui March on the Windward side of Oahu.
The suspect, described as “in his 20’s,” was being held at the Kaneohe Police Station, said HPD spokeswoman Michelle Yu.
The arrest was made at the Mahinui Road home of Fallau’s sister and father.
Fallau’s sister, Melissa Fallau, said today her family had no comment on the death of her brother.
“We’re just kind of in shock right now,” she said.
Court records show that Fallau had numerous run-ins with the law himself.
He was convicted of domestic violence June 4 and sentenced to two years of probation and 30 days in jail by state Circuit Judge Jeannette Castagnetti.
With credit for time served, Fallau was released from Oahu Community Correctional Center June 21, according to prison records.
Fallau was ordered by a state judge in April to stay away from his sister for five years and a former girlfriend sought and received a similar, two-year protective order against Fallau in 2010.
Both women related a series of violent and threatening encounters with Fallau in 2010 and this year.
Each said they suspected him of using illegal drugs.
Other than the incidents of domestic violence, Fallau’s only other criminal offense was a 2010 drunk driving conviction.
