Firefighters are battling raging wildfires across much of the western United States, including California and Idaho.
The U.S. Forest Service says a firefighter was killed Sunday when she was crushed by a falling tree while fighting a fire in northern Idaho.
In northern California, firefighters have made progress against a wildfire that has consumed several thousand hectares of land and forced the evacuation of nearly 500 homes near the city of San Francisco.
Firefighting crews are also struggling to contain and control infernos in Oregon and Washington state.
