Writing Guru Tom Peek

Volcano, HI – Volcano’s resident writing expert Tom Peek has a secret to share… about the story of your life. Join Peek in this unique workshop entitled Writing Family History and Personal Memoir on September 22, 2012 for a journey through your past to ensure your true life tale is preserved for the future.

Learn trusted techniques to help overcome barriers that cause writer’s block, self-censorship and a lack of depth when you want to get personal. Workshop topics will cover writing with emotional power, bringing back the past with photographs and memorabilia, and revealing the truths, lies and myths that have shaped your story.

Tom Peek has written for over thirty years, both professionally and as a potent way to process and guide the personal experiences of his life. From the backwaters of the Mississippi River to receiving his Master’s degree from the University of Minnesota then exploring the South Seas as a hitchhiker, he made Hawaii Island his home where he has now lived for over twenty years.

In addition to writing, Peek has been a newspaper photographer, park ranger, wild land firefighter, astronomy guide, English and writing teacher, lighthouse keeper, piano player, composer and radio disk jockey. His debut novel “Daughters of Fire” will be released this October; a gripping adventure tale of romance, intrigue, myth and murder set amid the cultural tensions of Hawaii.

Writing Family History and Personal Memoir with Tom Peek will be held Saturday, September 22 from 9:00am to 5:00pm at VAC’s Niaulani Campus located at 19-4074 Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village. No previous writing experience needed, open to all levels. Workshop cost is $85 or $76.50 for VAC members. Space is limited and advanced registration is recommended. For more information, visit www.volcanoartcenter.org or contact VAC’s Program Coordinator Julie Callahan at (808) 967-8222 or julie@volcanoartcenter.org.

Volcano Art Center (VAC) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1974 to develop, promote and perpetuate the artistic, cultural and environmental heritage of Hawaii’s people through the arts and education.
