Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary will hold a public meeting of the Sanctuary Advisory Council in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. This meeting will provide reports on the sanctuary’s management plan review process, 2012 whale season, cultural and historic resources evaluation (Section 106), enforcement activities, NOAA Fisheries actions, Japan tsunami marine debris and will focus on the sanctuary advisory council Aloha ‘Aina Workshop report. The workshop focused on ways to integrate traditional and place-based knowledge and scientific information in cultural and natural resource management.
Those wishing to speak on agenda items may add their name to the public comment sign-up sheet located at the conference room on the day of the meeting. Oral testimony is limited to three minutes. Any persons wishing to testify on agenda items is requested to submit a written copy of their testimony to the council coordinator by September 18, 2012 for distribution to the council prior to the meeting. After September 18, 2012 it is the submitter’s responsibility to provide sanctuary staff with an adequate number of copies for distribution to the council members in attendance (a minimum of 40 copies) the day of the meeting.
