Dale Evans operates Charley’s Taxi, the oldest taxi company with the second largest fleet on Oahu

Dale Evans, President and Chairman of Charley’s Taxi & Limousine, will be honored by the Small Business Hawaii Entrepreneurial Education Foundation with a community service award called the SBH Business Booster on Friday, September 21, at the Waialae Country Club.

Evans took over her family’s business from her parents, Charles and Helen Morita, who opened Charley’s Taxi in 1938. The company is the oldest and second largest taxi business in Honolulu and is known for its quality service and innovation. Since it began operating, the company has serviced 2.5 million customers.

Because of increasing demand and a shortage of drivers, Evans partnered last year with IntelliFleet Taxi Division to install a digital dispatch and tracking system that advanced the taxi company’s customer service and increase efficiency.

In addition to running Charley’s Tax, Evans is the founder and chairman of the Hawaii Highway Users Alliance and works with several other business organizations.

In 2003, she was named the Small Business Person of the Year by Small Business Hawaii. She also given the Award of Merit by the CITY & COUNTY OF HONOLULU and citations from the CHAMBER OF COMMERCE OF HAWAII and the governor of Hawaii.

Other awards include:

  • The Lex Brodie SBH Business Persons of the Year: Bobbie & Cliff Slater
  • The SBH Jean Fukuda Civic Leadership Awardee: Mike Palcic of MGP Consulting
  • The SBH George Mason Outstanding Business Reporting awardee: Andrew Pereira of KITV-TV.
  • SBH Success All Stars: Bill Comerford of O’Tooles/Hawaii Bar Owners Association, Peter Kim of Yummy Korean BBQ and Bob Sigall, author of “The Companies we Keep” and Rear View Mirror (in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser)
  • SBH Educators of the Year: Justin Mew, principal of Niu Valley Middle School, and Jed Gaines of Read Aloud America.
