Tasha Tanimoto, public relations for Hawaiian Humane Society

BY TASHA TANIMOTO – My name is Tasha Tanimoto, and I coordinate community education and publicity for the Hawaiian Humane Society. You can catch us every other Thursday on KITV’s Pets on Set and every Friday in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s Pet Ohana, where we feature pets seeking homes. You can also listen to us every third Monday of the month on Billy V’s radio show on Hawaiian 105 KINE and catch us monthly on Hawaii News Now’s Pet Connection. The news station is also a proud sponsor of PetWalk this year.

In May, we reunited a dog with his family after being lost for eight years. Snoopy was found wandering around Waianae by a police officer, who brought him to us. Thanks to Snoopy’s microchip, we were able to track down his owners and make the heart-warming reunion. We’ve also recently partnered up with the national nonprofit organization Pets for Patriots, which matches shelter dogs with military veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder or physical disabilities. Just last month we had our first referral, and were able to bring together Staff Sergeant Tomee Phetsisouk and Canute. Thank you so much for collecting donations for our 2012 PetWalk and for being a part of our ohana. You make a difference and we couldn’t do this without you. I hope you have shared your PetWalk page far and wide so that everyone knows about your love for animals.
