*1. A recent, terse letter to the editor of ”’The Honolulu Advertiser”’ pointed out that us City & County of Honolulu taxpayers will be paying the increased General Excise Tax at 4.7 percent (actually 4.712 percent), not 4.5 percent. Currently the 4 percent tax is actually 4.167 percent — just look at any store’s receipt.
*2. Bravo to Council members Barbara Marshall & Charles Djou for being “onipaa” (steadfast) in being the lone voters against the GE tax increase. Perhaps they feel as I do that windward Oahu & east Honolulu residents should not pay for the light rail, or at most, a reduced rate of tax because the rail line won’t benefit us in these areas.
