U.S. Sen. Robert Mendnez, D-Hoboken, is among six Democratic senators who have introduced a bill to grant permanent residency to families of those immigrants who serve in the U.S. military.
The measure also offers residency to family members where a service member has died.
Menendez introduced The Military Families Act and those who also put their names on the bill are Mary Landrieu of Louisianna, Daniel Inouye, Hawaii, Dick Durbin, Illinois, Kristin Gillibrand, New York, and Russ Feingold, Wisconsin.
The bill will not come to the floor for a vote until the Senate comes up with healthcare reform by the end of the year. It is now in the Judiciary Committee.
