HONOLULU – The Coast Guard and partner agencies are searching for a missing 13-year-old boy off Hapuna Beach Park, Big Island, Sunday.
At 10:21 a.m., watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center received notification from Hawaii County Fire Department of a boy who went missing after cliff jumping with friends, Sunday. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with tan shorts. A friend reported the boy missing after they jumped from a 15-foot cliff and then he never resurfaced.
Hawaii County Fire and Coast Guard have been conducting joint searches since 10:22 a.m. Hawaii Fire Department has conducted below water searches with dive teams, surface searches with Ocean Safety, and air searches with Fire and EMS air support. The Coast Guard has conducted air searches with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point and Coast Guard Cutter Kiska, a 110-foot Island class patrol boat home ported in Hilo.
